Brahms / Soldan - Piano Quintet in a Major - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Quintet of Silesian Musicians is composed of leaders of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. The ensemble, known for classical arrangements of entertainment music and popular works, has among it's long list of achievements, the premiere recording of Leaves from an Unwritten Diary by Krzysztof Penderecki in the version for string quintet. The present , with participation of German pianist Christoph Soldan, includes two compositions belonging to the most recognisable and popular chamber music repertoire. The youthful Piano Quintet in A major by Franz Schubert - Trout is a light and graceful composition, very different from subsequent works of the composer, as far as the atmosphere is concerned. Ries was a gifted and prolific composer in every instrumental genre. His Violin Sonatas are based on the Viennese Classical style established by Mozart but with a freshness and originality that includes movements such as the Adagio of the Sonata, Op. 38, No. 3, one of Ries's loveliest creations. The Sonatas Op. 38, Nos. 1 & 2 can be heard on the 2nd volume of this edition, which was Inchunreservedly recommendedInch by Fanfare magazine. It has long been my wish to record both of Johannes Brahms's piano concertos for CD. In doing so, I have been able to build upon many experiences that allow me at this point in time to open mys elf up even more to the essence of these works, which move me to the depths of my being. Both works offer me something incredibly great, something that in my conception of things can hardly be further enlarged. Each of the two concertos fascinates me with it's vast wealth of sound, it's intensity, above all with it's simply infinite emotional range. Highly dramatic developments open out into playful lightness of being. Time and again there are sincerely thoughtful moments, marked by deep serenity. The slow movements of these two concertos particularly fascinate me on account of those passages, which give us a glimpse into what is above and beyond the world we know. The Magyar in me senses many Hungarian influences. My engagement with the two concertos in the course of making the present recordings together with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen has enabled me to look at the above aspects with new eyes.
