The album is a musical and poetic rumination on the concept of truth. Beginning with an exercise in perception with Nicole Lizée's short InchZeiss After DarkInch which Inchevokes the cinematographic effect of the Zeiss lens, used to film intimate scenes lit only by candles.Inch This is followed by artist Yao's poem InchStrange Absurdities,Inch a piece which challenges the listener to cultivate our common humanity. Humanity is at the core as the album continues with Shostakovich's Symphony No.9 from 1945. Shostakovich, whose very humanity was challenged by the oppressive authorities of his time, composed his Ninth Symphony in the final year of World War II. In the same year, on the other side of the world - a composer who had fled the Europe because of the war, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, composed his Violin Concerto for Jascha Heifetz. The concept of truth, what was true for Shostakovich or Korngold, seems to be an issue of personal artistic integrity. The same is true with this world premiere recording of Philip Glass's Symphony No.13. Commissioned to honor the memory of journalist Peter Jennings, in a period of strife worldwide for journalist, Glass himself pushed back on the idea of music having the ability to express any definite ideas about truth. Glass's Thirteenth Symphony was composed in the period of 2020-22, largely during the period of lockdown according to what was happening with the worldwide pandemic. After a series of large-scale symphonic works, Glass's new symphony is one of his shortest at only 22 minutes and belies a calmness and reflection, in all three of it's movements. Album Tracks 1. It is a challenge for any young ensemble recording their debut album to choose compositions, the interpretation of which has to be an artistic showcase. The extraordinary richness of the classical string quartet music, youthful passions and fascinations, as well as a sense of uniqueness can all be found in the works presented by the Diverso String Quartet in their debut album. The obvious common factor are the Polish qualities, however in a particularly attractive form. All three compositions are indeed milestones in the development of Polish chamber music. The 19th century was extremely fertile in the world of chamber music, but it did not find potent ground within Polish music. That impression cannot be questioned apart from exceptional works such as Juliusz Zarebski's Piano Quintet. Gates to that world were only opened at the beginning of the 20th century, due to two sole, however very significant chamber music works by Karol Szymanowski. It is Szymanowski's First String Quartet that opens Diverso's recording. This work is the first outstanding string quartet in Polish music, which opened world stages to Polish chamber music. It can be said that Szymanowski with his First String Quartet began the nationalistic period, which crucially influenced the next generation of Polish composers. These influences can be found within the rich creations by the outstanding female composer, Grazyna Bacewicz. Her chamber music has formed part of the Diverso's repertoire, not only due to Diverso being a predominantly female group. The recording is completed with Andrzej Panufnik's Third String Quartet 'Paper-cuts'. Already the title of this work, written in 1991 highlights it's Polish character, and by definition it's Polish qualities are brought to the world.

The Ukrainian folk song is unquestionably a unique phenomenon. No nation in history has amassed such a wealth of songs as those created by the Ukrainian people. UNESCO has an impressive audio library of folk songs from all over the world. The Ukrainian contribution amounts to some 15,500 songs and is far and away the biggest collection in the library. Folk music in the Ukrainian language originated in the 9th century at the time when Kyivan Rus was founded; the authors of the texts of most songs have long since been forgotten. Over the years, many composers researched and arranged them, principally for voice and piano, and transformed them into InchRomancesInch, art songs, like German Lieder. The program includes 15 songs three romances by four composers and three folk songs. Each work has accompanied the artist's life in one way or another, so it has a special meaning for Lena Belkina. Many of the works on this album are being recorded for the first time - and this is a great opportunity to discover Ukrainian music, it's character, it's temperament, it's melodic language and the influence of time upon it. The program is emotional and multi-faceted and would not have sounded so authentic without the pianist Violina Petrychenko. She is making Ukrainian piano music known around the world, recording composers like Kosenko, Revutskyi, Barvinskyi and other artists little known in the wider world. This duet is a union of opposites that are brought together to complement one another, to reflect personal strength and passion for music. The artists united by a common goal - showing Ukrainian art full of love for their country to the whole world.
