After years of heartfelt requests, Thomas Albertus Irnberger has granted our wish and made us very happy with his Sibelius project. T. A. Irnberger's concept of combining a great violin concerto with chamber music works by the same composer follows the unpretentious idea of a complex presentation of a composer rather than the joint presentation of InchgreatInch violin concertos on one CD - which does not make Sibelius' violin concerto any smaller. Here presented in collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Doron Salomon, it is one of the six or seven most-performed concertos in the violin literature and, with it's turbulent genesis at the beginning of the 20th century, one of the great works of late Romanticism. The elaborate revisions and new versions have given the work a stringency that is hard to resist. The following violin miniatures on this CD, recorded with Irnberger's busy piano partner Michael Korstick, were composed in the later years between 1905 and 1929.

Benjamin Britten was a viola player as well as a pianist and wrote a significant body of chamber music for stringed instruments. The works on this recording - which contains important world premiere recordings - were written between 1925 and 1937, with the exception of the masterpiece for viola, Lachrymae. Chia-Ying Chan, originally from Taiwan, brings passion, vibrancy, sensitivity and creativity to her interpretations of classical music. She is an active soloist and chamber pianist, who has given solo performances and recitals across Taiwan, America and Europe, including at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Austurias (Spain); the Sala dei Notari (Italy); National Recital Hall (Taiwan); Carnegie Weill Hall (New York), and has been invited to perform at the Wiener Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Chan received her Doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where she is currently pursuing an artist- diploma and serving as the piano teaching assistant. Her DMA dissertation focused on the piano works composed by American composer Harold Shapero. Additional appointments include piano faculty at Community Center for the Arts, and instructor at Discover Melody-an international online-conservatory based out of New York, Beijing and Vancouver. She also serves as Vice-director and adjudicator at Chambana Music Competition. Her new solo features works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Fine.
