Following the success of his previous Orchid Classics albums, Stewart Goodyear returns with his spirited, insightful interpretation of the complete Beethoven Piano Concertos, recorded with Andrew Constantine conducting the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for a that coincides with Beethoven's 250th anniversary year. Goodyear made his Orchid debut with an album of Ravel's solo piano music, hailed as Incha major achievementInch (Classics Today). More recently, his sensational album with Chineke! Orchestra and Wayne Marshall featured Goodyear's own music alongside Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, the performance of which earned 5 stars in BBC Music Magazine. Now, Goodyear returns with perhaps his most ambitious recording yet the complete Beethoven Piano Concertos. There is the Haydnesque wit of the Piano Concerto No.1, with it's exquisite Largo; a pared-down, Mozartian orchestra for the Concerto No.2 with it's playful 'Turkish' finale; and in the Concerto No.3, premiered alongside the Fifth Symphony, Beethoven establishes a new intimacy between soloist and orchestra. This relationship reaches new depths in the intricately-linked Piano Concerto No.4, and the set culminates in the majestic 'Emperor' Concerto, No.5.

Dvorak's chamber music is amongst the most extensive and significant of the 19th-century and the four surviving piano trios embody his command of the form. The first two were written in rapid succession, with No. 1 in B flat major marrying Schubertian lyricism with Slavic inflexions, serenity with joy. No. 2 in G minor is rather more classically conceived though it shares the same formal structure as No. 1 and exudes a similar quotient of lyric beauty.

Composer Mark John McEncroe's latest album, Musical Images for Piano, presents a theater of the mind, performed with a delicacy that is both melancholic and nostalgic. Rather than attempting to shatter musical boundaries, McEncroe focuses on the introspective, letting the listener's stories and memories give the music it's own unique life. Divided into two volumes titled InchReflectionsInch and InchRecollections,Inch Musical Images for Piano is performed solo by pianist Yoko Hagino. McEncroe draws his inspiration from the setting of his Japanese garden, but beyond that, the composer does little to share his own stories. Instead, he encourages the listener to create an atmosphere where they can turn inward to give the compositions depth by associating them with their own memories. Like paintings, McEncroe's compositions begin simply with a title. InchDaybreak,Inch the opening song in the second volume, the tender slur of melody brings to life a moment of renewal, almost as if you can hear the sun rising for a new beginning. On InchNatalie's Theme,Inch the melody wafts along sorrowful tones. The composition characterizes someone that feels familiar, knowing everything about her through song. The pace of both InchReflectionsInch and InchRecollectionsInch volumes provide plenty of space to take a step back from the current moment and dream about places and moments that once seemed forgotten.
