Gary Schocker has composed some of the greatest works for flute of the past half-century. Included on this new are his Sonatas for Flute and Piano Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9, performed by Leslie Neighbor Stroud. Leslie Neighbor Stroud, flute, received her Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she was a student of Britton Johnson (National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and Timothy Day (San Francisco Symphony Orchestra). She has also studied with Lois Schaefer (Boston Symphony Orchestra), Walfrid Kujala (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Mark Sparks (St. Louis Symphony Orchestra) and baroque flute with Suzanne Stumpf (Musicians of the Old Post Road), as well as participating in the master classes of Gary Schocker, Julius Baker, Bonita Boyd and William Bennett. Leslie currently performs with the Pentangle Arts Orchestra, BarnArts Festival Orchestra, Pro Musica Vermont, Guilford Music Festival Orchestra, Cameo Baroque (a period instrument ensemble), Buttonwood Wind Quintet, the Richard Faith Ensemble, and the Sterling String Quartet. She has performed with New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, The Plymouth Philharmonic, New Bedford Festival Theater, the Tri-County Symphonic Band, the Buzzards Bay Musicfest, the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Peabody Wind Quintet, the Bellemore Ensemble of Baltimore, the Mozart Festival of Alameda, and the Trinity Chamber Concerts of California.

Christoph Eggner - Piano Pieces - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Anton Bruckner, who had been cathedral organist in Linz since Christmas 1855, had already been a student of the Viennese music theorist Simon Sechter since he took up this post. Despite these intense and extensive studies, he then took private lessons with the Linz theater conductor Otto Kitzler. Kitzler encouraged him from the beginning to write complete pieces and no longer to carry out mere exercises. This resulted in the InchKitzler-StudienbuchInch in 1862, which, in addition to piano pieces, also contains quartet sketches and songs for voice and piano. On this recording on a restored Bösendorfer fortepiano owned by Bruckner, Christoph Eggner presents countless Waltzes, Minuets, Polkas, Marches, but also Etudes, individual movements such as an Andante or a Rondo as well as four Fantasies. These small pieces correspond to the taste of his time, and the fact that Bruckner was already thinking in terms of orchestral sound is shown by the instrumentation notes and executions that follow these piano pieces - thus already in these beautiful pieces is the seed for all the admirable creations of the awakening symphonic composer Anton Bruckner.
